This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic towards Malaysia’s economic trajectory. The health crisis has caused devastating economic and social disruption as global economic activity came to a near standstill. The high and varied economic costs of the COVID-19 pandemic include business closures, rising poverty and greater fiscal burden. At the same time, the pandemic has accelerated the rise of the digital economy and spurred the growth of the gig economy. Malaysia still has the potential to regain her Asian tiger economy status despite the pandemic and some other challenges.
